I'm Tired (with Zendaya) by Labrinth
The song "I'm Tired" by Labrinth featuring Zendaya is on the soundtrack for the Primetime Emmy-award-winning show, "Euphoria," on HBO Max. This particular track was used during a dramatic sequence in Season 2 Episode 4 of the show, although it was not the original studio-recorded version as heard in the embedded recording. Some features to notice are that it does not feature a bridge, intro, or have your typical verse-chorus sequence. There is a strong melodic motif featured in this song that is repeated frequently, though the lyrics in each rendition differ slightly.
The most recognizable sections of the song are Verses 1-2 and Verses 4-5 since that is when the soloists sing. Verses 1 and 2 feature Labrinth as the soloist, while Verses 4 and 5 feature Zendaya as the soloist. There is a heavier textural presence during Labrinth's solo, including and duet with Zendaya during Verse 3 and the Pre Chorus, meanwhile her solo has a thinner texture to signify the loneliness her character feels in context with the show. Both verse sections are connected with the impactful chorus performed in the middle of the track which contains a choir, a bass, and a four-on-the-floor beat.
All of the solo verses and the chorus follow the aaa'b melodic phrasing and mostly start with the words "Hey Lord," with the exception of the chorus and one line from both Labrinth and Zendaya at the end of their phrases. The chorus may not contain lyrics, but it still follows the exact same melody as the verses, but with the choir singing in a unified syllable. The only sections that stray from this format are Verse 3 and the Pre Chorus which have aba'b and aa' phrasing, but they still have a somber melodic presence, and the Pre Chorus still features the "Hey Lord" motif in its lyrics. The outro is brief and only contains a synthesizer chord that rises and falls immediately after reaching its peak into a fadeout to end the track.
